Witness the Celestial Spectacle: Supermoon and Partial Lunar Eclipse over Kansas City

Gear up for an astronomical event that will captivate the skies over Kansas City on September 17th, 2024. As the moon reaches its closest point to Earth, a stunning supermoon will grace the night, accompanied by a mesmerizing partial lunar eclipse.

The Magnificent Supermoon

What is a supermoon? Mark your calendar for the Kansas City metro area ideal time to view harvest supermoon this September

NASA argues that supermoons occur three to four times a year and actually appear in succession. It will be then Lake the supermoon of October 17th and the moon vanishing on November 15, 2024. August’s supermoon added to the excitement for many watching this extraordinary celestial event in and around the region.

As per the details available the partial lunar eclipse will be well over four hours long — from 7:41pm, just minutes following sunset at 7:22 pm, to a peak at 9:44 pm. The eclipse will finish at 11:47 pm.

It follows an atomicsecond total eclipse in March of the next year; and was preceded by a partialselenelion on 20 March 2023. A partial eclipse on September 17 will afford sky-watchers in the Kansas City region a stunning vista into how Earth, sun and moon align for her dance.

Conclusion

The combination of a supermoon and partial lunar eclipse above Kansas City is extremely rare, occurring on September 17th, 2024. Those in the region stand to benefit the most as not only will they see a visibly larger and brighter moon, but viewers of also be able to watch Earth’s own shadow creep inexorably across her surface during the partial eclipse. A true testament to the wonders of our universe and a wonderfully awe-inspiring example of just how beautiful what is beyond us truly may be.
